Mark 3:7-35

Who: Jesus, the crowd (6x), disciples (8x), demons (D Team – 20x), scribes (3x)
What: Pay close attention the verbs
Jesus withdrew, told, healed, warned, went, summoned, appointed, gave, came, called, began speaking, answering said, looking said
The crowd followed, heard, came, crowd, pressed, touch, gathered, sitting, said
Disciples came
D Team saw, fall down, shout
Scribes came, saying
Where: boat, seashore, mountaintop, home
When:
Requested the boat before the crowd pressed him (he was planning)
Went up the mountain after finishing his time with the crowd (he finished his work with the crowd before moving on to the next task)
Appointed the 12
Went home and spoke with the Pharisees
Addressed the crowd about his family (never directly spoke to his family)
Why:
Why does he list all the cities? Is the geography of the area important?
· Emphasizing how much he impacted the area
· Inspired the entire region
· Mark wanted to include the Gentiles in the crowd
Why did they want to touch him? What convinced them that touching him would heal them?
· He did not heal the withered hand or the paralytic by touch
Why did he warn the spirits? Were the spirits demons or the unclean souls of the sinners?
· He had the authority
Why did the spirits obey his authority?
One way to look at the Plot and Overview:
· Jesus was preaching to the multitude
· The crowds gathered and pressed Him
· The disciples were appointed
· The scribes accused Him
· His family was asking for him and He redefined his family
Jesus realizes that the battle is beginning. He is gathering his troops, the crowd. He appoints his generals, the disciples. Jesus is countering every attack the Pharisees make on him.
